2017 Portuguese Canadian Walk of Fame

Proceed Beneficiaries Include Abrigo

The 5th annual Portuguese Canadian Walk of Fame (PCWOF) Gala Awards Dinner was held on Saturday, May 27 at the Famous People Players Theatre in Etobicoke. The Abrigo Centre is one of three benefiting charities receiving proceeds from this event.

This year PCWOF Chair Manuel DaCosta, owner of Viana Roofing, and the other members of the organizing committee selected Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa, physicist Pedro Gil Vieira, and musician Antonio Amaro as the 2017 class of inductees.

The three inductees were feted at ceremony at Camoes Square on College St. earlier in the afternoon. The scene quickly shifted to Famous People Players theatre were a fabulous dinner was had by all and guests got to enjoy both traditional Fado music and a theatre performance by the acclaimed Famous People Players group. In all, it was a fantastic evening of music, theatre, and education about the significant and groundbreaking work done by these three leaders in our community.

Among the sponsors for the evening included New Canadians Lumber, LiUNA Local 183, Torcan Lift Equipment and Hallmark Housekeeping Services. Hallmark owner Mr. Manuel J. Clementino was inducted himself in 2016.
