For Mothers

Success by Six Program

The Success by Six Program is eight-week parenting group for mothers, caregivers and grandmothers of children from birth to age six.

The goal of this program is to offer support in understanding the needs, challenges and the child/parent connection for moms with children ages birth to six. Topics discussed include understanding the various stages of development, positive discipline, supporting childhood fears and challenging behaviour, toilet training / bed wetting, managing jealousy and sibling rivalry and speech and language development and play as a form of connection and communication.

Children Have Stress Too

The Children Have Stress Too program is a four-week program, designed to help parents and caregivers understand that both parents and children experience stress. Participants explore how children’s stress is expressed in various stages of development and explore ways to support their children’s stress.

Participants identify how their own stress may impact their relationship with their children and practice a variety of strategies to support their own stress management.

Abrigo has a variety of Parenting programs that assist Moms and Dads, with the challenges and concerns they will face during their life-changing role as a parent. Programs are offered either in person or virtually depending on participant needs.

Raising Sexually Healthy Children. This program will help prepare participants’ children and teens to face changing times and grow up sexually healthy.

When parents talk with young children about their bodies and sexuality, they are promoting sexual safety and increasing the chances that their children will continue to come to their parents for help in sorting out all the confusing messages they will receive about sexuality as they grow.

The Raising Sexually Healthy Children class is a four-week workshop where mothers, caregivers and grandmothers have the opportunity to explore their own attitudes and increase their comfort with the facts and issues waiting ahead for their children.

For Fathers

Mindful Fathering Program engages men in considering how they can become more positively involved with their children and invites fathers to discuss their parenting challenges with other fathers.

This unique program developed by Yorktown Family Services in partnership with Abrigo, is offered to men who have had previously exposed their children to intimate partner violence and are seeking to improve their relationships with their children.

The program is offered over 12 weeks in two-hour sessions. Topics covered include how to develop a personal vision for change by identifying hopes for the future, setting goals and working together to overcome barriers, dealing with stress and anger, and increasing awareness of attitudes regarding masculinity and gender roles that contribute to partner abuse and child maltreatment.
