Donors Fund New Chairs for 2nd Floor
On-line and Direct Mail Campaigns Result in New Chairs for Abrigo
When Abrigo arrived at its current location, it received a donation of used chairs from a generous local business. After six plus years most chairs showed significant wear and tear and multiple others broke and were discarded. At times, some approached being a danger for clients and many were still in use up until recently.
So the need to purchase new chairs was real and immediate and Abrigo took action toward the end of 2017. As part of November’s Giving Tuesday on-line fundraising campaign and Abrigo’s holiday season direct response program, $4,000 was raised by donors to Abrigo to purchase 100 new chairs for the organization.
“We were delighted to have so many donors and friends of Abrigo step up and support this mini-campaign,” said Ed Graca, Executive Director of the Abrigo Centre. “The impact of having safe, comfortable chairs for clients is significant given that they are used for six or seven hours each day, three days a week. We thank all those that made a gift to this worthy cause.”
With more than 200 registered members and growing, Abrigo’s Group Vida e Esperança or Life and Hope Seniors Group, are the primary beneficiaries. The group offers clients a welcome relief from the loneliness they often may feel in an empty house or apartment. Being with peers in a comfortable and safe environment is something that creates a sense of belonging and that makes this program particularly attractive to seniors in the Portuguese speaking community.
