Grupo Vida e Esperanca celebrates their 5th anniversary

Musical guests Jazz Plazma brings Party to Life

Normally quiet on a Sunday afternoon, Abrigo’s second floor was filled with the sounds of music and laughter on November 8 as 120 members of Abrigo’s Educational and Recreational Group (Grupo Vida e Esperanca) celebrated their fifth anniversary.

Without a doubt the highlight of the event was the amazing performance of Jazz Plazma featuring Stella Jurgen. Ms. Jurgen, a friend and donor to the Abrigo Centre, brought the house down with a smoking set of jazz standards and traditional Portuguese songs. The audience went wild as Stella and her band played hit after hit. Stella brought her first set to a rousing conclusion with her new single “Vontade de Viver”. You can purchase a copy at the Abrigo Centre for $10 and all proceeds will go directly to the agency.

In addition to the great music, the afternoon featured an amazing selection of food and desserts served up by five dedicated and loyal volunteers to the program. Since its inauguration, Sergio Sarmento, Elisabete Dias, Maria Zelia Tavares, Maria Teresa Moura and Maria Siva have provided unwavering service to the group. Sunday’s event provided Abrigo with the opportunity to recognize them and say “thank you” to each for all of their hard work over the years. Our most sincere thanks to all!
