Davenport Seniors Fair Celebrates Seniors Month

Abrigo Centre was one of a number of organizations invited to the event by host MPP Cristina Martins

Davenport MPP Cristina Martins held her first Davenport Seniors Fair, in celebration of Seniors Month in Ontario, for a full house of community-minded individuals at the lovely Casa do Alentejo on Thursday, June 22 . Forty-five members of Abrigo Centre’s Life and Hope Educational and Recreational group enjoyed a day filled with information, music and dancing and great food.

Abrigo was one of seven or eight different social service agencies in attendance at the event. All organizations in attendance reside in the Davenport riding and it was a great opportunity for clients to meet with other clients from agencies such as the First Portuguese Canadian Cultural Centre, Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre and the LA Centre for Active Living.

The special guest speaker at the event was Dipika Damerla, Ontario’s Minister of Seniors Affairs. Minister Damerla provided inspiring remarks about the importance of community and having agencies like Abrigo in them and she also answered a number of questions from attending guests.
