International Women’s Day 2018

Abrigo Holds First Large Scale Event Off-Site

Thank you to all our 200 guests and community partners from across Davenport for attending Abrigo’s annual International Women’s Day event on Thursday, March 8. This year was the first that Abrigo held our free IWD event off-site and we were delighted to hold it at the wonderful Casa do Alentejo in Toronto.

This celebration would not have been possible without the financial support of the province of Ontario through a Multicultural Community Capacity Grant from the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration. Thank you to Davenport MPP Cristina Martins for her contributions to making this event a reality.

As well, Abrigo wishes to thank our event Presenting Sponsor Joe’s NoFrills for their very generous support and our Commemorative Bag sponsor the law firm Azevedo and Nelson.

The entire day was a celebration of women and attendees heard inspiring stories from a number of successful women including keynote speaker Suzy Soares, formerly of OMNI TV, Michelle Jorge, a lawyer with Jewell Radimisis Jorge, Gila Raposo, a Project Coordinator at West Neighbourhood House, Marina Britto, owner of MarinaSol Travel and finally Abrigo Board Chair and Executive Director of White Ribbon Humberto Carolo.

In addition to the excellent remarks from our guest speakers, attendees were treated to some great entertainment including performances by singer Lidia Sousa and an afternoon performance by the great Tony Gouveia.
