The Power of Community Showcased at 2025 AGM

Led by Board Chair Lena Barreto, Abrigo hosted our 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, September 25. A house filled with clients, community leaders, volunteers and other Board members, participated in this important process to review the fiscal year and elect new Board members.

At the meeting, the agency said good bye to Ms. Carla Neto for her excellent leadership after four years on the Board and welcomed Ms. Ofelia Isabel, a well-regarded member of the community with an extensive background in the business world and assisting charitable organizations.

A special thank you must go out to Abrigo’s extraordinary AGM guest speaker for the evening, Mr. Nation Cheong, Vice President of Community Impact and Mobilization for the United Way Greater Toronto.

Mr. Cheong provided an insightful and thoughtfully layered presentation about the power of community, and the need for grass-roots organizations like Abrigo to continue to deliver services to meet the demand despite the growing number of challenges small organizations like Abrigo face and our clients themselves. It was a moving and thought-provoking presentation that we all carry with us for the weeks and months ahead.
